About Us

The story of who we are and what we value.

concrete sealing small business ownerMy name is Plumer Peeler III, the owner of Specialty Concrete. I am a third generation concrete construction "worker". There are two things my father said to me growing up: "No pain, no gain," and, "Work your fingers to the bone." My father's words and influence instilled a hard work ethic into my personality. I grew up being brought to high-rise construction sites in San Francisco where my dad was the superintendent. Later, he started his own company building huge concrete structures and buildings which helped develop skills early on in my childhood.

Age seventeen is when I began working with and forming concrete. I was building hillside house foundations and doing flatwork with two well-seasoned concrete veterans. They taught me the basics and gave me lots of experience in working with concrete. "Plumb and level" became impregnated into my brain. After four years of foundation work I moved into stamped and decorative concrete. During the next ten years I honed my skills, learning the ins-and-outs of all kinds of fancy concrete.

Over the years I have helped a few companies, functioning as foreman and superintendent. This has given me the skills needed to communicate with homeowners and builders to ensure mutual success, both for me as a small business owner and, more importantly, for my client. Running a work crew has never been a problem for me. Concrete can be a beast at times. When it is, it takes a controlled and animalistic mindset to master and tame it.

I love what I do. My years of experience has given me the confidence and skills to build just about anything out of concrete—decorative and functional. Yet this confidence has not given way to complacency. With all the new products and techniques, we are still always learning and fine-tuning our craft.

At Specialty Concrete we focus on the details, especially the up-close and intricate ones. They matter. It is one thing to stand back from something and say it looks good. It is quite another to come in close where all the imperfections stand out. We value both the "far away" ascetics and quality as well as the up close and personal. We try to put that extra effort into all of our work—no matter what.
